Camping is one of the most popular pastimes in the UK, it is hugely popular in the summer as a holiday and also very popular with children and teenagers as it is a cheap type of holiday that is fun. The most basic type of camping equipment is the tent, there are tents in all kinds of shapes and sizes available and what you buy basically depends on the number of people that will be sleeping in the tent and the conditions that you will be using the tent in. The basic camping tents are great because they are cheap and can be used for most camping holidays, they are designed for normal weather and conditions so as long as it's normal holidays or the children using it locally it will be fine. The size of the tent is probably the most important factor, there are two measurements to look out for which are the height of the tent and the number of people that can sleep in the tent. The height of the tent is not that important as it is unlikely that you will be stood up inside the tent for very long, the number of people that can sleep in the tent is important though as this dictates how many people can sleep in the tent and therefore how many people can go on the camping holiday. When it is said that tents can sleep a certain number of people this refers to adults, if your are buying the tent for children to use then you will be able to fit more children in the tent as a general rule, for instance four children should be able to fit into a three man tent.

Then there are the more advanced tents, these are still intended for general use such as holidays or locally for the children but they offer more space and features, they are recommended if you are going on a long camping holiday. They often have more than one room, many of them have several separate rooms so you can have much more privacy, most also have a separate room for storage or communal activities. With the more expensive tents it generally comes down to space, the more space offered inside the tent the better to these generally cost more.

The shape and design of the tent is also of importance, dome tents are the most popular as they are more aerodynamic so that wind can blow over them instead of blowing into them. This makes them much more sturdy and less likely to encounter problems with the wind, lots of the bigger tents are also based on the dome design even though they are not completely dome shaped, they often have several dome shaped sides.

Sleeping products are the next most important consideration, you want to be comfortable while camping so getting good quality sleeping products is important. The most basic sleeping product is the sleeping bag, this offers warmth and also some cushioning from the hard ground, they are also simple to use so cause less mess. There are many types of sleeping bag available with the cheap, basic sleeping bags offering enough warmth and cushioning for most campers on holiday. Then there are the more expensive sleeping bags that offer more warmth and have more cushioning so they are more comfortable, there are also lots of children's sleeping bags which have children's characters on them like Barbie, Groovy Chick, Bratz, The Power Rangers, The Simpsons and many others which are very popular with children.

Then there are other sleeping products which can make your sleeping much more comfortable, camping mats and air beds offer much more cushioning on the ground and therefore much more comfortable sleep. These camping mats or air beds are also cheap so well worth the purchase, air beds need to be inflated though so camping mats are easier to use although they do not quite offer the level of cushioning offered by air beds. You can also get camp beds, camp beds are great as when you are sleeping on them you are not touching the ground, camp beds do take up more room though so are not as popular with traditional campers.

There are then lots of other camping equipment products available, they include rucksacks, flasks, folding chairs, folding tables, kettles, stoves, heaters and much more. Many of these are not essential for camping but are very useful, products such as flasks and rucksacks are not directly related to the camping but are very popular among campers for the activities that they do during the day. Folding chairs and tables make life easier in the day when you are in or around the tent, they are great for when you dine near your tent as they offer comfort and are more organised.  Kettles and stoves are also very useful if you plan on drinking or dining in or around the tent, heaters are great but care should be taken with heaters and stoves as there is a great fire risk.

So when buying camping equipment there is allot choice, the basic options are the size of the tent and how many rooms the tent has. Then there are the sleeping products, sleeping bags are the most popular and the children just love kids sleeping bags that feature Barbie, The Power Rangers, Bratz, Groovy Chick, The Simpsons and others but products like camp beds, camp mats and air beds do offer more comfort so are well worth the money. Then there are lots of other non-essential products that do make camping easier and more pleasurable, they include folding tables, stoves, rucksacks, folding chairs, flasks, kettles, heaters and lots of others.
