When buying a bike online there are a few things to look out for, the first thing is the frame type. The traditional frame type is the diamond frame then there is the Y-Frame which has rigid front or full suspension and the last type is the pivot style frame which always has full suspension.

The gears of the bike are also important, they allow you to adjust the gear level so that you can make it easier to cycle uphill or easier to cycle faster on flat ground. The number of gears that a bike has determines how finely you can change the gears, the more gears the bike has the smaller the difference will be to the cycling when you change gear. Bikes generally have 6-24 gears available with the off road bikes such as mountain bikes and dual suspension bikes having more, some kids bikes and BMX bikes either have a small number of gears or do not even have the ability to change gears. The type of gears is also important as there are two types, Gripshift gears are changed by rotating a small trigger and EZ fire gears are changed by pressing buttons which is easier.

The brakes on the bike are also important, the two main types are V-Type and Disc. The V-Type brakes have a brake block on the wheel rim offering increased stopping ability, the Disc brakes are mounted on the hub of the wheel giving great stopping power and they are also not affected by dirt or water.

When buying a bike online you have to be careful with the size, the size of the cycles is stated as the inside leg size and is measured with the leg nearly fully extended with the pedals at the bottom of their rotation. The saddles and handle bars of bikes can be easily adjusted though so as long as you are within the range given for the bike you will be fine, most bikes give a good range of at least 15cm for adults which covers most people.

There are many types of bike available and dual suspension bikes which are a type of mountain bike, they are a very popular choice as they look cool and absorb more pressure than normal cycles. A dual suspension bike has front suspension forks and rear suspension action too so they absorb lots of pressure and provide a very comfortable ride, they are best suited to off road or bumpy conditions. These mountain bikes generally have more gears than other bikes as uphill riding is common, mountain bikes also usually have more sturdy frames as they often need to go though more rough conditions.

The next type of bike is the general leisure bike, these are intended for general use such as bike rides or local use. They generally have thinner frames than the mountain bikes and a few less gears, this is not important though as these features are not needed for general cycling. Leisure cycles also generally have a higher riding position whereas the saddles on mountain bikes are lower.

Kids bikes are also very popular as they are great fun and also give the kids good exercise, kids bikes are one of the best forms of active play. Kids bikes generally have fewer features than adult bikes as kids rarely need them, they usually include a few gears though so that kids can get used to using them and they will be there if they ever need them. The size of the frame is also important with kids bikes as kids have this tendency to grow fast, kids bikes will state an inside leg range for the bike so it's a good idea to get a bike with lots of room for growth. So if your child's inside leg is around 52cm then it's a good idea to get a bike which has an inside leg range starting at about 50cm, they will then usually have a good 10-15cm to grow into giving the bike a good life.

So when buying a bike there are a few choices available and a few features to look out for, the most popular types of bike are kids bikes, leisure bikes, mountain bikes, dual suspension bikes, BMX bikes and others. If you are looking for a cheap bike then have a good shop around, many of the shops have cheap bikes and many also run cheap special offers and deals so finding a cheap bike can be quite easy with Halfords and Argos being good choices.
